Makeup Revolution Review

When I saw the Makeup Revolution display in Ulta, I thought it was a joke. Seriously, every one of their products looks like a dupe of a popular high-end product. Of course I had to try some out, especially if they really were good dupes!

Makeup Revolution products range from $2-$18 and they are cruelty free. They had a display about the same size as Physician’s Formula in Ulta. I picked up an eye shadow palette, a contour palette, a blush palette, and a lip pencil/liquid lip combination. I’ve tried all of these products a few times.

Going in order of how I put these products on my face, I’m going to start with the Pro HD Powder Contour Palette. Depending on your skin shade and tone this has 4 contours and 4 highlights. So far, I have used the banana shade in the right corner to set my under eyes, the second contour from the left, and the white shade as a highlight on my cheekbones. This palette is $18, so this is one of the more expensive products from Makeup Revolution.

I’ve been enjoying the banana shade for under my eyes. It sets my concealer nicely, but it doesn’t add much brightness. I like the contour shade I use, but I think it is a bit light for me. The darker shade is too dark. The highlight adds a subtle sheen. Overall, I think this is a good beginner’s contour palette and it is especially good for those with very fair skin. They also sell a palette known as “light medium” for darker skin tones.

This blush palette was the product that originally drew me to the Makeup Revolution display. I loved the 8 pink, swirly blush shades. This is the Blush Queen Blush Palette and it retails for $10.

Unfortunately, this is my least favorite of all the Makeup Revolution products that I bought. Once you swirl a brush around in a pan, or use your finger for a swatch, the swirl decoration comes right off the top. You are left with a very shiny version of the color underneath. Not only are these all shimmery blushes, but they are also very similar in color to each other. So much so that I can’t tell the difference between them when I put them on my cheeks. I would not repurchase this palette and am interested if all of their blushes in the other palettes are as shimmery.

This is an eye shadow palette called the Golden Bar Palette. If you own anything from Too Faced I’m sure you can see where the inspiration came for this product and packaging. This palette has 16 shades and they are all shimmery or satin finishes. This palette is $15.

I actually really love this palette! I was worried because all of the shades look too shimmery to be able to do a whole eye makeup look with it, but I have found that once you get the top layer off, some of the brown shades are matte enough to be used in the crease. It may look like a lot of gold shimmery shades, but can you ever really have enough gold eye shadow?! I didn’t think so either. I would definitely recommend this product, especially someone looking for a good eye shadow palette on a budget.

This lip pencil and liquid lip come together as a lip kit, and the box they come in looks suspiciously like a certain celebrity’s brand of lip kits. This is the Reto Luxe Matte Lip Kit in Reign and it is $9.

I really like this product, except that the lip pencil doesn’t turn up. All the product you see at the tip there is what you get. It’s very creamy and will not last nearly as long as the liquid lip. The liquid lip is a comfortable matte formula. It stays on well all day, but it is transferable. It reminds me of the NYX Liquid Suede Lipsticks in formula. The color that I got is a nice neutral pink.

After using all the products that I bought, I am very excited to go out and try lots more of their products. As you can tell from my review, some of the “dupe” products are not worth it, but I do think the formulas are good for a drugstore brand. Let me know if you have tried any makeup Revolution products!

  1. I’ve tried a couple of eyeshadow palettes (different than the one you have) from MR and didn’t love them. They weren’t awful, they just weren’t my favorite but I have been looking to try some other things from them and see if I can have some better luck! Thanks for sharing! xoxo
