Get Ready With Me – Wearable Fall Makeup

I know everyone has been posting dark, dramatic makeup looks for fall (myself included), but I understand that the style isn’t for everyone. I wanted to create a more muted, everyday look with neutral colors that everyone can wear! Here is the look I created!

What I’m Wearing:

NYX Angel Veil Primer

BareMinerals BarePro Foundation in Aspen

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in Fair

RCMA No Color Powder

Makeup Revolution Review

When I saw the Makeup Revolution display in Ulta, I thought it was a joke. Seriously, every one of their products looks like a dupe of a popular high-end product. Of course I had to try some out, especially if they really were good dupes!

Makeup Revolution products range from $2-$18 and they are cruelty free. They had a display about the same size as Physician’s Formula in Ulta. I picked up an eye shadow palette, a contour palette, a blush palette, and a lip pencil/liquid lip combination. I’ve tried all of these products a few times.

Going in order of how I put these products on my face, I’m going to start with the Pro HD Powder Contour Palette. Depending on your skin shade and tone this has 4 contours and 4 highlights. So far, I have used the banana shade in the right corner to set my under eyes, the second contour from the left, and the white shade as a highlight on my cheekbones. This palette is $18, so this is one of the more expensive products from Makeup Revolution.

I’ve been enjoying the banana shade for under my eyes. It sets my concealer nicely, but it doesn’t add much brightness. I like the contour shade I use, but I think it is a bit light for me. The darker shade is too dark. The highlight adds a subtle sheen. Overall, I think this is a good beginner’s contour palette and it is especially good for those with very fair skin. They also sell a palette known as “light medium” for darker skin tones.

This blush palette was the product that originally drew me to the Makeup Revolution display. I loved the 8 pink, swirly blush shades. This is the Blush Queen Blush Palette and it retails for $10.

Unfortunately, this is my least favorite of all the Makeup Revolution products that I bought. Once you swirl a brush around in a pan, or use your finger for a swatch, the swirl decoration comes right off the top. You are left with a very shiny version of the color underneath. Not only are these all shimmery blushes, but they are also very similar in color to each other. So much so that I can’t tell the difference between them when I put them on my cheeks. I would not repurchase this palette and am interested if all of their blushes in the other palettes are as shimmery.

IMG_1468

This is an eye shadow palette called the Golden Bar Palette. If you own anything from Too Faced I’m sure you can see where the inspiration came for this product and packaging. This palette has 16 shades and they are all shimmery or satin finishes. This palette is $15.

I actually really love this palette! I was worried because all of the shades look too shimmery to be able to do a whole eye makeup look with it, but I have found that once you get the top layer off, some of the brown shades are matte enough to be used in the crease. It may look like a lot of gold shimmery shades, but can you ever really have enough gold eye shadow?! I didn’t think so either. I would definitely recommend this product, especially someone looking for a good eye shadow palette on a budget.

This lip pencil and liquid lip come together as a lip kit, and the box they come in looks suspiciously like a certain celebrity’s brand of lip kits. This is the Reto Luxe Matte Lip Kit in Reign and it is $9.

I really like this product, except that the lip pencil doesn’t turn up. All the product you see at the tip there is what you get. It’s very creamy and will not last nearly as long as the liquid lip. The liquid lip is a comfortable matte formula. It stays on well all day, but it is transferable. It reminds me of the NYX Liquid Suede Lipsticks in formula. The color that I got is a nice neutral pink.

After using all the products that I bought, I am very excited to go out and try lots more of their products. As you can tell from my review, some of the “dupe” products are not worth it, but I do think the formulas are good for a drugstore brand. Let me know if you have tried any makeup Revolution products!

Favorite Face Masks

Face masks are some of the most luxurious and pampering products. I love treating myself to a face mask, a glass of wine, and a good book. I own six different face masks that I interchangeably use when I feel that my skin needs something (like hydration or pore filling). I briefly touched on how face masks are part of my skin care routine in another blog post and video!

I love all the masks that I use and would re-purchase all of them. Keeping that in mind, I’m going to give a review of each of the face masks I own and link to them so you can buy them if it appeals to you!

IMG_1462

The first mask I bought was the Origins Clear Improvement mask. This is an “active charcoal mask to clear pores.” This mask is $27 and I purchased mine at Sephora. I like to use this mask when I have break-outs, which are usually hormonal. This mask is very drying, though, so I don’t use it more than once a week. This is the only Origins product I have used, but I am tempted to buy more because I love this mask so much!

IMG_1460

After buying that mask, I pretty much became obsessed with masks. L’Oreal came out with 3 different masks and I bought the Purify and Mattify Pure-Clay mask. This is the green mask that they released. This mask is $12.99 and I bought mine at Target, although I have seen this in most drugstores that sell L’Oreal. Like the Origins mask I use this when my skin is breaking out or when my face just feels dirty. Again, I only use this once a week as it can be quite drying.

IMG_1461

Another drugstore mask that I love is the e.l.f. Hydrating Bubble Mask. E.l.f. released an entire skincare line dedicated to hydration. I bought mine for $14 at Target. This mask is so fun because once you put it on, it starts foaming and bubbling on your face. It actually tickles a lot! I love the feeling of my skin after using this mask, and since it is hydrating, you could use it as often as you want.

IMG_1456

On the more expensive side, I have 3 Glam Glow masks. I didn’t buy these for myself, my wonderful boyfriend got them for me for Valentine’s day. This mask in the blue bottle is the Thirstymud Hydration Treatment. I love leaving this on for a long time. The longer I leave it on, the softer my skin feels. I have also used this as an over-night mask. It retails for $69, as do the rest of the Glam Glow masks.

IMG_1457

The green mask from Glam Glow is probably my favorite of all of my masks! This is the Powermud Dualcleanse Treatment. I love how Glam Glow just throws all their words together and makes new words! This is a thick mask that has granules that exfoliate when you rub it off. I use this when my skin needs clearing.

IMG_1459

The last mask I have is the Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment from Glam Glow. This is the harshest mask I own. This almost hurts while you have it on, but it really does make your skin feel firmer. It is a very thick formula and has chunks (of something?) in it.

For the most part, I like to apply my face masks with a flat foundation brush that I clean after each use. It makes the coverage more even and I don’t get any face mask product under my fingernails.

What face masks do you use and love? Obviously, I love them and would love more recommendations!

BareMinerals BarePRO Liquid Foundation Review and Demo

BareMinerals is known for their powder mineral makeup. I’m not really into powder foundation, so I have never tried their foundation. When I saw that BareMinerals made a liquid foundation, I was interested and bought it right away!

IMG_1439.JPG

I bought mine on Ulta‘s website, but it is also available on Sephora. It retails for $34 for 1 fluid ounce. Each retailer sells 30 different shades. This is the largest foundation that I currently own!

This foundation is supposed to be a lightweight, full coverage foundation with a matte finish. I’ve been trying this product out for a few days and I am ready to give my review!

I bought mine in the shade Aspen 04. Honestly, this color is too light for me right now, but I am very tan from vacation. I make it work with a little bit of bronzer. The bottle is heavy and luxurious feeling and the best part is that it has a pump! Yay!

IMG_1435

I usually use two pumps on the back of my hand, and that is enough for my entire face. In my YouTube video (linked at the bottom) I tried applying it on half of my face with a brush and half of my face with a beauty sponge. I liked using the beauty sponge so much better than the brush!

When it pumps out, it is a very liquid consistency. You can see it starting to drip on the back of my hand. However, I think that makes it easier to blend on the face.

I really love this foundation so far! The only downside is that it is definitely not full coverage like it says it is. I could have layered more on, but I’ve been loving the more-sheer look for the summer. It is a matte finish like it says. This bottle will also last you FOREVER – it is so big and you don’t need a lot of product. I am excited to see if this improves the quality of my skin over time, as bareMinerals products claim to do that.

Overall, I suggest checking this out! I’ve been loving it and I think you will too!

July Beauty Favorites

July was a pretty low-maintenance makeup month. I did, however find a few favorites to include for this month. Enjoy!

IMG_1416

The first product that I have been loving is a primer. This is the NYX Angel Veil Primer. I know, I’m late to the hype on this one. I usually prefer pore-reducing primers, but this one minimizes pores while also smoothing out the rest of the face. I notice that my makeup sticks nicely to this as well.

I also found myself having to buy a new foundation this month because I ran out. This never happens, I just usually find another foundation I like better before I finish one. So, of course, I had to go foundation shopping. I ended up loving what I picked out. I have the Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Foundation. I use the shade 20 warm ivory. Not only is this foundation supposed to look good when you wear it, it’s also supposed to improve your skin over time. I actually have noticed this! When I use this every day (along with my skin care routine) my skin looks better at the end of the week. Try this out and let me know if you think so too!

I’ve been loving this palette from Lorac that I got myself as a treat when I had an Ulta gift card. This is the California Dreaming Palette and the packaging and colors are so pretty! I love creating both a muted summery look as well as a darker more intense look with this palette. I feel like the colors are different from any other palette that I own.

IMG_1419

The lip color that I’ve been wearing a lot this month is the Wet n Wild megalast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick. I think the drugstores are finally getting the hang of matte liquid lipsticks! I’ve been wearing the shade Nudist Peach and at first I really did not this shade on my lips. However, now that I have a tan, I feel like this shade complements my skin nicely. I bought another shade and can’t wait to try that one out too!

Last in the makeup department, I’ve been loving the Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Hers and Rosewater. I’ve used this as a primer before makeup, a setting spray, and a spray to freshen up throughout the day. It smells delicious and since it’s made of all-natural ingredients, I don’t feel bad really dousing my skin in this. I only have a travel bottle for now, but I will definitely be getting the full size soon.

IMG_1420

I was on the hunt for some really dark sunglasses to wear while I was on vacation in Florida. I found these completely black ones at a Gap Factory store for super cheap. I bought them and haven’t put them down since! I have a small head, but these fit my face pretty well and I love how dark they are!

That’s it for my favorites for the month of July! Leave a comment about what you have been loving this month so I can check it out!

Makeup Collection and Storage

I don’t have a ton of makeup, but I thought I would share how I store the products that I have. I also posted a video on YouTube that goes more into depth about the specific products that I have. I love watching videos and reading posts about this – probably because I’m so nosy!

img_1197

This is the desk where I do my makeup every day, so I keep my most-used products here. I have a small mirror that flips over to a more magnified mirror. This small shelf was a gift from my boyfriend and is super convenient to store small products and brushes that I use all the time.

img_1198

Next to my desk, I have a bookshelf that holds the rest of my makeup. On the top I have a case where I store all my lip products. I also have a few drawers where I keep individual eye shadows. On the top shelf is primers, foundations, powders, bronzers, blushes, and highlighters. On the middle shelf I keep eye shadow palettes (large ones and quads) and extra eyeliners and mascaras. On the bottom shelf I have a box of nail polishes and paints and brushes for actual painting.

I try to keep things organized, but as you can see, some areas could do with a little more organization (lip products)! Make sure you check out my video to see me describe the products in detail!

10 Winter Essentials

Since I’m in the winter mood (snow day please?) I thought I’d post my top 10 winter essentials. These are things that I use almost every single day during the winter to keep cozy. Enjoy!

  1. A Heated Blanket/Pad – Every night before I go to bed, I turn on my heated blanket on my bed so that when I crawl in it’s already warmed up for me. I hate getting into a cold bed so this is perfect! I also have a heating pad that I use on my lap in the living room.
  2. Candles – Lighting candles in the evening is so relaxing for me. I love the way they look and smell! I’ve found that the best candles for their price can be found at Target.
  3. Mini Heater – I love taking baths in the winter, but my bathroom isn’t heated and I used to freeze in the tub. Now I have a mini heater to use when I take baths to heat up the bathroom. It’s tiny, but definitely heats up the whole bathroom!
  4. Tea – In the winter, I usually drink at least one cup of tea a day. During the day I prefer teas like green tea and earl grey tea. At night, I’ll wind down with a cup of sleepytime peach tea.
  5. Pajamas – I love pajamas. Seriously, I am obsessed. I asked everyone to get me pajamas for Christmas and now I have so many cozy winter pajamas. Sometimes, I even put them on as soon as I get home from work!
  6. Body Butter – My skin gets so dry in the winter. I try to apply body butter or lotion to my entire body after every shower. Bonus if it’s a relaxing scent!
  7. Chapstick – I have a tube of chapstick with me pretty much at all times. At night for an added boost of moisture for my lips I’ll apply vaseline instead of chapstick.
  8. Boots – I have a lot of boots. Short boots, tall boots, boots for snow, boots for rain, boots when I’m feeling lazy. Boots are a staple for my entire winter wardrobe.
  9. Slippers – I wear slippers all the time when I am at home. My feet are super cold all the time and slippers really help! My mom actually knitted the pair I am currently wearing.
  10. House Plants – Looking outside and seeing brown grass and/or snow can be quite the downer during winter. I keep a few house plants just so that I have something green to look at once in a while. Some of them I even keep alive!

What are your winter essentials?
