Books I Read in July

Summer is the perfect time to get lots of reading done – and boy did I do that in July! My family went on vacation to Florida for 12 days so I had quite a bit of downtime to read. I probably will not be able to read this many books in other months – especially once the school year gets started, but I thought it would be a fun tag to do on my blog!

Every month I’ll show you the books I read, give a brief description of them (from my own memory of course) and give a review on them. I’ll try to review them in the order I read them.

The first book I read in July was The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo by Amy Schumer. I really enjoy reading comedians autobiographies and this book was no exception. She talks about her childhood and how she became a famous comedian. There are parts that are hysterical, but she also touches on some topics that she is passionate about, like gun violence. Overall, a nice easy summer read.

Next, I read Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen. While Dessen usually writes books for a teen audience, I loved this book. The characters were real and sweet, just like they are in all of her books. Whether you’re a teen, a young adult, or an adult, I think you will enjoy this story.

A book that I’ve had on hold at the library for a long time finally came in this month. it’s the recently popular The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.  I love dystopian books as a genre and this was different from all the other dystopian books I’ve read. She creates a society that is disturbing but also, (maybe more disturbing) realistic. I’ve also started watching the Hulu original show and I’m pretty obsessed with it.

I then moved into easier, beachier reads while I was on vacation. I read Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella, one of my favorite authors. This is a story about a girl who loses three years of her memory in a car accident. When she wakes up she has no idea who she is and what her life is. She is unsure who to trust to help her get her memories back. I read this book in about two days, so it’s safe to say I enjoyed it!

Another book I finished in two days was Where we Belong by Emily Griffin. An adopted girl attempts to find her biological mother when she turns 18. However, her mother has kept her a secret from pretty much everyone, and the story is about her coming to terms with her past. Great book!

The last book I started and finished in July was All of us and Everything by Bridget Asher. I found this book accidentally in the library because I thought the cover was cute. Note to authors: if you have an appealing cover and spine, I will read your book. This story was about a family of five adult sisters and their mother. They are quite the eccentric family and they do wonderful, crazy things. Good cover and good book!

Those are all of the books that I read in July. I had an enjoyable, relaxing month and I’m glad that I got the opportunity to read so much. I am always looking for book suggestions (I keep a running list of books to read – anyone else?) so please leave comments on books you think I would enjoy!

Current Skincare Routine

Let me preface by saying that I am not the type of person who spends an hour on their skincare routine everyday. I don’t have the patience, and frankly I don’t think my skin needs that much upkeep. That being said, I love putting on makeup, so I have to have a good base on which to put my makeup. This is what I have figured out works for my skin and lifestyle!

I have pretty normal skin, not too oily, not too dry. When I wake up in the morning my skin is a bit oily, but nothing that doesn’t come off when I wash it. I get a little oily throughout the day (especially if I’m working or if it is hot) but a little powder clears that up.

This picture shows every single product (face masks excluded) that I use to take care of my skin everyday. It might seem like a lot to some, but to others this could be very minimal. It’s all personal choice!

In the morning I only use two products. I wash my face with the TopCare skin cleanser. As it says on the packaging, it is comparable to the Cetaphil daily cleanser. I have tried that as well and the only differences are the packaging and price. Cetaphil is more expensive and has a pump top. The TopCare cleanser has a pour top. I prefer the pour top for traveling. I just pour about a quarter-sized amount on my hand, rub it into my skin, and rinse with my hands.

Everyone should use an SPF in the morning! If you take nothing else from this post, please just remember that you should be using an SPF moisturizer on your face every morning. Even if you are not out in the sun, it is better to be safe than sorry.  I use the Cerave AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion with SPF 30. It is light and not greasy and is perfect to use before applying makeup.

My nighttime routine is more involved, but still only takes me about 10 minutes. I start by using the PIXI + Caroline Hirons Double Cleanse. I take out some of the solid oil first and really work it into my skin. This is also safe to use around your eyes, and I have found it effective at removing most of my eye makeup. Then I rinse off the oil with a washcloth. Most makeup will be removed during this step, so make sure to rinse well. Then I use the cream side as a second cleanse. I work it in and rinse it off just like I do with the solid oil.

If for some reason not all my makeup is removed during these two steps, then I will use the Mario Badescu Eye Makeup Remover around my eyes. This has the same consistency as Vaseline and will remove anything else you might have left behind. I might also use the Simple Micellar Water to remove makeup, but I prefer the Mario Badescu.

Then, I apply toner with a cotton ball. I pour a little amount of the Mario Badescu Aloe Lotion onto it and rub it all over my face and neck. Sometimes a little foundation will still come off on the cotton ball, but that is what this step is good for.

For moisturizer I use the Mario Badescu Seaweed Night Cream. This stuff is green and thick (appealing right)! I love it for a nighttime moisturizer because my skin gets extra hydration throughout the night when I use this.

The last step is using the Cerave Eye Repair Cream underneath my eyes. The skin is very delicate here so make sure not to pull it too hard while you are applying the eye cream.

Like I said, this routine is pretty simple and doesn’t take too long! What is your current skincare routine? I’d love to know in the comments, especially if you have a similar skin type as me! I also made a video on this for my YouTube channel which goes into more detail about each of the products. Make sure you check it out!

A to Z About Me

I’ve seen this tag floating around the internet for a few years and I thought I would contribute my version of it! I won’t lie, it was hard to come up with things for some letters (x, seriously???) but i did the best I could. Enjoy!

A Active I play on a few leagues with my friends and I enjoy having something to do in the evening. I play kickball and volleyball. I am not particularly good at either.

B Book Lover I LOVE READING. I find it relaxing and enjoyable. I read YA books as well as “adult” books. Some people find reading boring, but i love picturing the stories in my mind.

C College Graduate I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in early childhood and childhood education with a concentration in human development in 2015. Then, I continued on at the same college and got my master’s in Literacy. Obviously, I have become a teacher!

D Dogs I feel as though my life is not complete without a pet dog in my life. I have a pug, Lola, who still lives at my parents house. She is absolutely obsessed with my dad so I could never make her leave and live with me. I am also currently looking to adopt a black lab from some local shelters. Finders crossed!

E Eyes I have blue eyes and I really enjoy the color. All eye colors are beautiful of course, i just think it’s interesting to see what color people have!

F Favorite Color My favorite color is pink. Always have been, always will be.

G Girlfriend I have a boyfriend, which makes me a girlfriend. We have been dating for two and a half years and recently moved into a gorgeous apartment together. I’m very happy with our relationship now!

H Height I am only 5’1”. There are very few benefits of being this short, except that I can fit into kids clothes which are usually cheaper.

I Introvert I’ve always been shy but I didn’t realize until recently that I’m just an introvert and that’s okay! I like being by myself a lot, but I also enjoy hanging out with other people sometimes.

J Jogger Every few years I decide that I’m going to be a runner. I take out Runners World from the library and run about a mile on the treadmill two times a week for two weeks. Being a runner is hard! Any advice on starting running and actually sticking with it would be appreciated!

K Kindergarten Teacher This past year I completed my first year of teaching as a kindergarten teacher. Kindergartners are loud and full of energy, but I love teaching them!

L Leggings I would wear leggings every single day if it was appropriate. Especially those LuLaRoe ones – so comfy!

M Makeup Lover If you couldn’t tell from my blog and YouTube channel I love playing around with makeup. I’ve gotten some new makeup recently so I’m hoping to do some first impression posts!

N Neat I like to consider myself to by a pretty neat person. I guess you’d have to see my house to really believe me!

O Organized Going along with neat, I like to keep things organized. I especially am very good at keeping my work organized at work.

P Pasta-Eater Pasta is definitely my favorite food. I love all kinds of sauce and shapes of pasta. Basically, I would eat pasta every day if it wouldn’t mean I would blow up.

Q Quiet What I mean by this is that I have a very quiet voice. I’m getting better at raising my voice level, but when I was younger everyone was always telling me to speak up.

R Right-handed This seems obvious, but I write and do pretty much everything with my right hand.

S Snail Mom I have four pet snails that live in an aquarium in my bedroom. Their names are Fiora, Evangeline, Stella, and Lila. Snails are the best pet ever and I found mine in a field!

T Traveler Like most people, I enjoy traveling. When I was younger I went to Europe three times. I’ve traveled cross-country twice, and my family visits Florida every year. Travel while you can!

U Underwear Color I’m wearing blue flowered underwear right now, in case you were curious.

V Vegetables I Like I actually really enjoy eating vegetables. I especially like brussels sprouts, broccoli, green beans, and green peppers.

W Wine I love wine! Especially Merlot and Malbec. If you ever need a gift idea for me…

X X-Rays Like most normal people I’ve had a few x-rays in my life time. Most recently I’e had my teeth x-rayed at the dentist.

Y Youtube Watcher and Creator  I’ve been making YouTube videos for about two years (I’m Camille Pearl on YouTube), but I’ve been watching YouTube videos for about five years.

Z ZZZ’s I need a lot of sleep. I really only feel awake after at least 9 hours of sleep. However, my career doesn’t really allow that during the school year.

I hope that was interesting for you! Feel free to do your own version of this and tag me on your blog!
