Summer is the perfect time to get lots of reading done – and boy did I do that in July! My family went on vacation to Florida for 12 days so I had quite a bit of downtime to read. I probably will not be able to read this many books in other months – especially once the school year gets started, but I thought it would be a fun tag to do on my blog!
Every month I’ll show you the books I read, give a brief description of them (from my own memory of course) and give a review on them. I’ll try to review them in the order I read them.
The first book I read in July was The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo by Amy Schumer. I really enjoy reading comedians autobiographies and this book was no exception. She talks about her childhood and how she became a famous comedian. There are parts that are hysterical, but she also touches on some topics that she is passionate about, like gun violence. Overall, a nice easy summer read.
Next, I read Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen. While Dessen usually writes books for a teen audience, I loved this book. The characters were real and sweet, just like they are in all of her books. Whether you’re a teen, a young adult, or an adult, I think you will enjoy this story.
A book that I’ve had on hold at the library for a long time finally came in this month. it’s the recently popular The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. I love dystopian books as a genre and this was different from all the other dystopian books I’ve read. She creates a society that is disturbing but also, (maybe more disturbing) realistic. I’ve also started watching the Hulu original show and I’m pretty obsessed with it.
I then moved into easier, beachier reads while I was on vacation. I read Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella, one of my favorite authors. This is a story about a girl who loses three years of her memory in a car accident. When she wakes up she has no idea who she is and what her life is. She is unsure who to trust to help her get her memories back. I read this book in about two days, so it’s safe to say I enjoyed it!
Another book I finished in two days was Where we Belong by Emily Griffin. An adopted girl attempts to find her biological mother when she turns 18. However, her mother has kept her a secret from pretty much everyone, and the story is about her coming to terms with her past. Great book!
The last book I started and finished in July was All of us and Everything by Bridget Asher. I found this book accidentally in the library because I thought the cover was cute. Note to authors: if you have an appealing cover and spine, I will read your book. This story was about a family of five adult sisters and their mother. They are quite the eccentric family and they do wonderful, crazy things. Good cover and good book!
Those are all of the books that I read in July. I had an enjoyable, relaxing month and I’m glad that I got the opportunity to read so much. I am always looking for book suggestions (I keep a running list of books to read – anyone else?) so please leave comments on books you think I would enjoy!
