Physicians Formula Organic Wear Silk Foundation Elixir Review

Is it just me, or are foundation product names too long? It took me forever just to write down what product I was reviewing! Anyway, I’ve been trying out the Physicians Formula Organic Wear foundation and I have a few thoughts and my review on it. I always promise to be completely fair with my reviews – even though I get recommendations from others, these opinions are all my own. So without further ado, here is my Physicians Formula Organic Wear Silk Foundation Elixir review!

Pros

This product claims to be hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, paraben-free, gluten-free, dermatologist approved, clinically tested, cruelty-free, and vegan. That’s a lot for a product claim! I originally bought this foundation because Physicians Formula’s new Organic Wear line is sustainably created. I love the environment and I’ll do anything I can to do my part in helping it. Here’s a post I wrote on easy ways to become environmentally conscious. A definite pro for me is that this product is sustainable.

It comes in a glass bottle. Another environmentally friendly thing! It did come shipped in plastic wrap in a box, but I’m more okay with that since the product and packaging are sustainable.

It’s (relatively) inexpensive. This product retails for $15.99. In my mind, this is slightly more expensive that a typical drugstore foundation, but also cheaper than a higher-end foundation. Foundation is one of the products I’m willing to pay a bit more for, since I’ll be wearing it all over my face all day. So, I appreciate the mid-range price tag of this.

It has an easy applicator. This product comes with a dropper applicator. I find this much easier to use than a pump or open applicator.

Cons

This foundation has sheer coverage. You might really like this aspect of it! However, I found that it was too sheer to use with a makeup sponge, and I just used my hands.

The formula is runny. Along with being sheer, it’s very liquidy. Like, run down your face as you’re applying it liquidy. I like a thicker, more medium coverage foundation, and this reminded me more of a BB or CC cream than a foundation.

Overall Review

Although I could find more pros with this product than cons, the formula just isn’t right for me (find my favorites here). I love so many things about it, but it doesn’t give me the coverage I need. I ended up adding more concealer on top of this foundation. Before purchasing, I definitely recommend deciding what type of coverage you want. If you like sheer, then this might be the one for you!

If you’ve tried it, what did you think of this foundation?

  1. I will have to try this out. I am intrigued on how it will work for me. I’m sorry it didn’t work for you!

  2. I love a lighter foundation, so I think the physicians formula could be perfect for me.My question for you is did it spread evenly? I’m fine with watery, as long as the end result is even. Thanks in advance for the advice.

  3. I actually like my coverage to be more medium as well. I feel like sheer coverage is just wasting my money if you can’t see a difference. Thank you for the review. I do think I will skip this one, although I do like the Physicians Formula company as a whole. Maybe I will look for a thicker coverage foundation from them.

  4. Not really a fan of sheer coverage. I like to hide as many blemishes as possible. However, whenever I have on foundation I go crazy and am just itchy and can’t wait to take it off lol

    1. This one was so thin maybe it wouldn’t make you itchy! Also you can build it up in places that you want

  5. Sounds very interesting. I don’t wear makeup much but when i do I like to have a decent, full coverage. But willing to try something new.

  6. I don’t think that this would work for me. Although I like light coverage foundation, I don’t like that this one is sheer. I also don’t like liquidy foundations. Since I have dry skin I prefer a more creamy product. It’s a good brand though.

    1. It is a good brand which was why I was a little disappointed! Oh well I’ll just try another

  7. I am looking for a tips like this. This is so great and so helpful resources. I am surely be guided by this. Thanks for sharing your bright idea!

  8. I can feel you Camille. Foundations are tricky. My dermatologist gave a trick: I combine suscreen, foundation and a pinch of liquid glow, then mix everything and that is my best foundation ever. Thank you for your honest review.

  9. Not tried it as they are only just coming in to the uk, but I love light Foundations so will try it when I can get a bottle

  10. It seems like most brands are either coming out with full coverage or sheer. Here’s hoping that in 2020 that start to expand to either lightweight you can build or medium you can sheer out.

  11. I think good foundation is half of makeup. Very useful and lovely post. It is tricky for me as well, thankfully I don’t need full makeup on daily basis
